Delinquents
“A final postscript to this story: I owe much to Bob Probert and his delinquent teammates — Klima, Sheldon Kennedy, Joe Kocur, Steve Chiasson and others. I wrote so much about their misadventures with alcohol, taking them to task and often penning harsh opinion pieces questioning their character and waxing on and on about how they were squandering their careers and letting down their teammates with their behavior.
I was a hypocrite. The only difference between those guys and me is that they got caught and I didn’t.”
The make-up of the Carolina Hurricanes in their inaugural season was primarily NHLPA93 legends such as Kevin Dineen, Nelson Emerson, Robert Kron, Glen Wesley, Paul Ranheim, Keith Primeau, Stu Grimson, Stephen Leach, Gary Roberts and Steve Chiasson.
Steve Chiasson passed away in a car crash after the Hurricanes’ season-ending party at Gary Roberts’s house in May of 1999.
